Psychotherapy

Street Talk offers one to one psychotherapy to women with no charge to the women. The service is designed to overcome those obstacles which exclude the most marginalised people from accessing therapy. The model is therapy of presence, rooted in object relations theory.

Art Therapy

Street Talk offers art therapy both one to one and in groups as an alternative to talking therapy. Art therapy includes women who don’t speak English and to those who don’t want to talk about what they have lived through.

Group Therapy

Women taking part in groups find a place where they can talk about subjects which are very difficult and usually taboo. Women take great support from being able to talk openly with others who have lived through similar traumatic experiences.

Holistic Model

Street Talk takes the therapy into prison, rehab, hospital and bail hostels to continue working with women when they move from one location to another.

Where appropriate the Street Talk therapists will provide support to women by attending court appointments or meetings with other agencies to ensure that a woman’s whole story, in particular her mental health history, are taken into consideration when important, life changing decisions are being made, such as sentencing in court.

We know that the women we work with need a lot of help from all kinds of different agencies. Street Talk works closely with many other agencies who can support the women in different ways.

Street Talk provides volunteering opportunities for women who have made progress and are well enough to take on some responsibility.  We created a volunteer programme for the women because many organisations will not allow women with a criminal record to volunteer.
